A closed posting stops appearing here on the day it closes. It is not hidden from you specifically — it is gone from the index for everyone.
How the order is decided
Within a group, a match in the title outranks a match in the body, and a more recent thing outranks an older one when the match is otherwise equal. That is the whole rule. Nothing here is promoted, nobody pays to appear higher, and there is no personalisation — two people searching the same word get the same page.
Why the groups are not merged
To put a guide above a job you would need a number saying how much more useful the guide is. That number does not exist, so blending the lists would mean inventing it and then presenting it as a result.
Why the counts can differ from the directory
This page searches what is published now. The company directory lists every company including ones with nothing open, so its total is larger and both numbers are correct.
