Learn how employment verification works on ClearHire. Understand the process of verifying your work history and building trust with employers.

The help/verification page explains how ClearHire's employment verification system works for both job seekers requesting verification and former employers being asked to confirm. The system is opt-in and one-time: past employers receive a unique link, click to confirm role / dates / title, and the entry gets a verified badge on the seeker's public profile. Nothing installs on the employer's side. Verification is optional — unverified history still appears on profiles, just without the badge. Most users verify the most relevant 2–3 recent roles rather than all history.

Use cases

  • Requesting verification for the most relevant past roles. Pick 2–3 recent roles that map to your target. Send the verification request via the form. The former employer receives a one-time link, confirms with one click, and the verified badge appears on your profile.
  • Responding to a verification request as an employer. You receive an email with a one-time link. The link shows what is being verified (employee name, role, dates). One click confirms or declines. No account creation, no installation, no follow-up obligations.
  • Handling unresponsive former employers. If the employer does not respond within 2 weeks, you can resend the request once. After that, the verification stays pending and the entry shows as unverified. More common with very small employers, contractors, or employers from 5+ years ago.

How it works

  1. Pick 2–3 most relevant roles. Recent roles that map to your target carry more weight than older or less-relevant roles. Verifying every role you have ever held is unnecessary.
  2. Send the verification request. Enter the former employer email address. ClearHire sends the one-time link. Track in your account dashboard.
  3. Wait 2 weeks and resend if no response. Most employers respond within 2 weeks. If not, resend once. After two no-responses, accept that the verification will stay pending.
  4. Check verified status on your public profile. Verified entries get the badge automatically. Unverified entries appear without it but still show on the profile.

Examples

  • A candidate verifying their last 3 roles. Sends 3 requests. Two confirm within a week; one takes 18 days after a resend. All three show verified badges on the public profile. Recruiters viewing the profile see the verified history; the badge becomes a trust signal.
